Review: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

As a former educator, principal, and current salesman, I have been wanting to read this book for a while. The hype behind the 20 million copies sold may have risen my expectations to an unhealthy level. Covey does a fantastic job with his writing style and ability to capture attention while moving at a fast pace. He, unlike many other self-help/leadership authors, gives credit repeatedly to the fact these 7 Habits are not his offspring, but have been around for a long time. At the same time, this book serves more as a reminder of good living and good parenting strategies. The chance it will elicit a psychological breakthrough from an adult should be low. The chance it will help remind the to behave with integrity and give some examples of such living is high. There is definitely a place for this book in the world ofd education though. The young adult and child audience would be a prime target. This provides a guide to learning life lessons in conjunction with life experiences, rather than solely through experiences, as most of the adult readers will have done by the time they turn the first page.
